National Solidarity Movement Demands Urgent Support for Officer Morhafee Jabateh’s Life-Saving Treatment!”

Monrovia, Liberia – The National Solidarity Movement (NSM) has urgently called on key Liberian government officials, including the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Col. Gregory O. W. Coleman, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, the Liberian Senate, and His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai to take immediate action in facilitating the medical evacuation of Officer Morhafee Jabateh, a police officer critically injured while performing his duties in 2023.

Officer Jabateh was severely burned in Totota, Bong County, in 2023 while trying to prevent citizens from illegally taking gasoline from a crashed tanker truck.

The incident, which involved a tanker truck transporting gasoline from Monrovia to Gbanga, Bong County, ended in a devastating explosion, claiming many lives and leaving several others injured, including Officer Jabateh.

According to the group, since the tragic incident, Officer Jabateh has been living in pain due to a lack of adequate medical care.

Despite his heroic efforts to protect lives during the disaster, the officer has reportedly not received the necessary medical attention, leaving him to endure constant suffering.

The NSM has voiced its deep concern, claiming that the government of Liberia, including the leadership of the LNP and the Ministry of Justice, has abandoned Officer Jabateh, failing to provide him with the proper medical treatment he desperately needs.

The National Solidarity Movement has called for urgent intervention, urging the government to take the necessary steps to have Officer Jabateh flown abroad for advanced medical treatment.

In addition, they are calling on local and international humanitarian organizations to lend their support to ensure that Officer Jabateh receives the care he deserves.

“We are asking for the government to fulfill its responsibility to this brave officer who was injured while safeguarding the lives of others. Officer Jabateh risked his life for his country and deserves the best care possible,”  NSM release noted.

The incident in Totota has become a symbol of the risks faced by members of the Liberia National Police, whose primary mission is to protect life and property.

Officer Jabateh’s actions in stopping the illegal fuel theft demonstrated his commitment to his duty, yet he has been left without the support he needs.

The NSM continues to press for immediate action, urging that Officer Jabateh receive the medical care that will allow him to recover and continue serving the country.

The call for action has echoed across the nation, with many hoping that the government and humanitarian groups will unite in support of Officer Jabateh’s health and well-being.
