NEC to Experience Full Digital Transformation, Acting Chairperson Jonathan Weedor Unveils Vision

On his first week in office, the Acting Chairperson of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia), Mr. Jonathan K. Weedor, has begun setting a forward-looking agenda—unveiling plans to fully digitalize the Commission’s operations.

Mr. Weedor, an experienced Liberian election expert, emphasized that an Electoral Management Body (EMB) like NEC-Liberia must keep pace with global technological advancements in order to effectively deliver credible, efficient, and transparent electoral processes.

The Acting Chairperson made these remarks on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, during the launch of a 10-day NEC Website Migration and Modernization Training taking place at Stella Maris University in Monrovia.

Accompanied by NEC Deputy Executive Director for Administration, Mr. Samuel B Cole, the Acting Chairperson commended the UNDP Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP) for its continued support in modernizing the Commission’s website and enhancing its user-friendliness.

Also speaking at the event, UNDP–LESP Program Officer, Mr. Roosevelt Zayzay, acknowledged the NEC’s efforts to improve public communication through the redesign of its website.

He encouraged the Commission to maximize the remaining support from the LESP, noting that the program is scheduled to close on 31 December 2026.

The LESP is funded by international partners, including the European Union, Sweden, and Ireland, and is managed by the UNDP.
