The Nazohn Public School in Electoral District #4, Grand Bassa County, is facing a deteriorating structure and inadequate resources, with Principal Victor D. James attributing the situation to a lack of attention from educational and local authorities.
Since taking over as principal in 2023, James has reached out to District Education Officers and government officials to address the school’s infrastructure needs, but his efforts have been fruitless. The school, established in 1946, currently serves over 150 students with only four teachers, two of whom are volunteers.
In addition to its poor structure, the Nazohn Public School lacks basic necessities such as blackboards, chairs, and textbooks, resulting in substandard learning conditions for students. “I have written to the office of the lawmaker regarding the situation, and we are eagerly awaiting a response,” stated Principal James.
The plight of the Nazohn Public School is reflective of the challenges faced by many schools in rural Grand Bassa County that lack adequate resources and volunteer support. Urgent intervention is needed to ensure that the students receive a quality education.
