The Ministry of Health has officially welcomed a new batch of Chinese medical professionals while honoring the outgoing team, marking another milestone in the long-standing health partnership between Liberia and China.
The ceremony, which also commemorated the 21st anniversary of the re-deployment of the China Medical Team to Liberia, highlighted decades of cooperation aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.
Speaking at the event, Health Minister Louise Mapleh Kpoto praised the continued support of the Chinese government, noting its impact on infrastructure development, capacity building, and the supply of essential medical resources.
“We are deeply grateful to the Chinese government for its unwavering support to our health sector,” she said. “I personally benefited from the expertise of one of the doctors at JFK years ago. Their contribution went beyond treatment-they also trained and mentored us.”
She commended the outgoing 17th medical team for their service and dedication, acknowledging the lasting impression they have made on Liberia’s healthcare system.
Addressing the incoming 18th team, Minister Kpoto spoke candidly about the challenges ahead while encouraging them to remain committed.
“The environment you are entering can be difficult, and at times it may feel isolating,” she noted. “But your work is important, and you have our full support.”
She also expressed appreciation to Yin Chengwu for his continued role in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yin described the transition between the two teams as part of a broader, enduring partnership between the two nations. He applauded the outgoing team for successfully completing their mission.
“The 17th medical team has carried out its duties with distinction and honor,” he said, while welcoming the new team to continue advancing medical collaboration in Liberia.
The arrival of the 18th China Medical Team underscores ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and reinforce international cooperation in Liberia’s health sector.
