Construction has officially begun on a new concrete bridge connecting Newtown and Dolo Town in Bong County, replacing an aging wooden structure that residents say had deteriorated over the years.
The project is being spearheaded by District #1 Representative, Prince K. Koinah, as part of ongoing efforts to improve critical infrastructure across the district.
Several old wooden bridges in the area are being replaced with durable concrete structures aimed at enhancing safety and easing transportation.
Residents say the transition from wooden to concrete bridges represents more than just a physical upgrade. They believe it will deliver long-term benefits, including increased durability, lower maintenance costs, and improved capacity to handle heavy traffic.
Speaking briefly, Dolo Town Chief Elder William Drobidescribedthe initiative as a significant step forward. He noted that concrete bridges can last for decades and will greatly improve the movement of goods and people.
Elder Drobia also emphasized that this is the first time a lawmaker in the district has undertaken such a масштаб infrastructure effort, calling it a clear sign of progress and commitment to development.
The Newtown–Dolo Town bridge project follows the recent completion of the Zoweinta–Zoweyhslon bridge, further highlighting ongoing development in the district.
Once completed, the new bridge is expected to ease transportation challenges along the Newtown–Dolo Town corridor, as well as routes leading to David Dean’s Town.
Residents have expressed strong support for the lawmaker, with many pledging continued backing in the upcoming elections, citing what they describe as rapid development since he took office.
According to the District #1 lawmaker’s office, since assuming office in January 2024, Representative Koinah has overseen the replacement of approximately eight wooden bridges with modern concrete structures across the district.
