ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County — The Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital (MTMH) is set to officially transition to its new, state-of-the-art medical complex in mid-February 2026, marking a major technological and infrastructural milestone for healthcare delivery in Southeast Liberia.
The modern facility, with a capacity of 160 beds, is equipped with advanced diagnostic laboratories and medical equipment aimed at reducing long-distance referrals and improving access to quality healthcare services within the region.
The project was dedicated by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and funded by the German Government through KfW, with implementation support from Welthungerhilfe.
Speaking on the hospital’s preparedness, Medical Officer Dr. Dennis D. Carbo confirmed that the administration is working closely with the Ministry of Health to finalize essential operational requirements, including electricity, water supply, and network connectivity, ahead of the relocation.
Future of the Old Facility
Located just outside central Zwedru, the new complex will serve as the primary referral health hub for Southeast Liberia.
The Ministry of Health is expected to determine the future use of the old hospital site following the completion of the transition.
