NIC Refutes Attribution in FrontPage Africa Story, Urges Accurate Sourcing

The National Investment Commission (NIC) has distanced itself from comments published in a recent FrontPage Africa article regarding ongoing negotiations between the Government of Liberia and ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), saying no authorized official provided information for the story.

In a statement released Thursday, the NIC said neither its leadership nor any member of the government’s negotiation team spoke with the newspaper or offered remarks on the matter.

While describing FrontPage Africa as one of the country’s most credible and influential media institutions, the Commission stressed that such credibility heightens the responsibility to ensure that information attributed to government bodies comes from authorized spokespeople rather than unnamed “insiders.”

The NIC cautioned media institutions against what it called the “misuse, unwarranted attribution, or casual insertion” of government entities into news narratives, warning that such practices risk misleading the public and undermining sensitive national processes.

According to the statement, the government remains focused on securing a framework that protects Liberia’s national interest, ensures long-term revenue generation, and upholds transparency.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the public properly informed through official channels and urged media institutions to verify information with authorized representatives when reporting on matters of national economic importance.
