Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has dismissed allegations that she failed to declare her assets, insisting she has fully complied with legal requirements.
In a press release issued Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Office of the Superintendent refuted claims that Gono was among government officials accused of non-compliance with asset declaration laws.
According to the statement, Superintendent Gono officially declared her assets on August 2, 2024, in accordance with legal mandates. Despite her compliance, her name was reportedly included in a recently published list of non-compliant officials.
The release further clarified that other local government officials in Nimba County, including the County Development Officer, County Finance Officer, County Administrative Officer, and several City Mayors, were also mistakenly listed.
Superintendent Gono’s office has urged the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to rectify the inaccuracies and ensure public records accurately reflect the compliance status of officials. The statement reaffirmed the Superintendent’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance in serving the people of Nimba County and Liberia.
To support her position, a copy of Gono’s asset declaration acknowledgment slip was attached to the release as proof of compliance. The controversy is expected to generate further scrutiny as officials push for an official correction of the published list.
