The National Lottery Authority (NLA) on Thursday officially launched its 2025 Christmas food distribution initiative targeting disabled communities, orphanages, public welfare institutions, and scientific institutions across Liberia’s fifteen counties.
The ceremony marked the first time the NLA is extending festive season support simultaneously nationwide.
The initiative aligns with President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s ARREST Agenda and fulfills the NLA’s mandate under Section 6.1.2 of the 2014 Act that established the Authority.
The NLA announced that the 2025 festive assistance package includes:
5,000 bags of 25kg rice, 295 cartons of Crown Vita, 295 cartons of Argo oil
Approximately 300 institutions are expected to benefit.
The nationwide distribution exercise begins November 28 and runs through December 24, 2025, under the supervision of the NLA’s Department of Social Welfare.
Director General Hon. Peter L. Solo described the initiative as a milestone in the Authority’s effort to support vulnerable citizens.
“This is the first time the NLA is catering simultaneously to disabled communities, orphans, and the elderly across all fifteen counties,” he said.
“We remain committed to ensuring dignity, respect, and relief for our people during this season.”
He thanked the government, the NLA Board, and staff for their cooperation, and declared the day a National Feeding Day for persons with disabilities, orphans, the homeless, and the elderly.
Mr. Peter Flomo, head of the National Disabled Union, welcomed the gesture and encouraged the NLA to continue expanding opportunities for vulnerable groups. He also underscored the need for improved data collection to ensure equitable distribution.
The NLA emphasized that the initiative aims to bring comfort to the nation’s less fortunate during the festive period, reaffirming its commitment to public welfare.
Senior officials expressed appreciation to President Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung for their support. The program was attended by the NLA Board of Directors, senior management, members of the National Union of Organizations for the Disabled, and representatives of beneficiary groups.
