Monrovia – The National Port Authority (NPA) collaborated with the United States Coast Guard in a series of security drills and monitoring exercises aimed at enhancing port safety and ensuring compliance with international maritime standards.
The exercises, held in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), focused on reinforcing security protocols and improving operational readiness at Liberia’s ports.
NPA Managing Director Sekou A.M. Dukuly welcomed the US Coast Guard delegation, expressing appreciation for their continued partnership in bolstering the country’s maritime security framework. Dukuly emphasized the importance of international collaboration in maintaining secure port operations. “The United States Coast Guard’s support has been vital in strengthening our security systems and ensuring we meet global maritime standards,” he remarked.
The drills were overseen by Col. Famond A. Kanneh, who serves as the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) and Chief Security Executive (CSE) at the NPA. Kanneh highlighted the significance of the exercises in improving coordination between the NPA and international security agencies.
The training sessions included simulated emergency responses and assessments of existing security measures, allowing both parties to evaluate the effectiveness of protocols and identify areas for improvement. Officials from both sides described the exercises as a demonstration of their shared commitment to maritime safety.
The NPA reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining international security standards and enhancing cooperation with global partners to safeguard Liberia’s ports. According to the authority, these collaborative efforts are crucial for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of maritime operations across the country.
