NSA Employee Charged with leaking classified NSA Intelligence to His Uncle, Embattled Speaker Koffa

Monrovia, Liberia—Following a police investigation, Alex D. Dolewon, an employee of the National Security Agency (NSA), has been charged with leaking classified NSA intelligence to his uncle, embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

Dolewon, aged 40, has been accused of unlawfully disclosing confidential information, mishandling sensitive materials, recklessly endangering others, and criminal coercion.

These charges stem from his alleged involvement in leaking classified NSA intelligence to his uncle, embattled former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, and other unauthorized individuals.

The police investigation, which began in December 2024, uncovered that Dolewon used his WhatsApp account to share sensitive NSA details, including the names and roles of high-ranking officers, with embattled Speaker Koffa.

He reportedly urged his uncle not to trust certain NSA officials, including Deputy Director Steven Dolo, whom he described as involved in “dirty work.”

Additionally, Dolewon sent information about NSA officers’ positions and activities to others, putting the agency’s operations and personnel at significant risk.

Dolewon’s actions, according to a police investigation, have raised serious concerns about national security.

Disclosing classified information without authorization breaches the NSA’s administrative instructions, prohibiting such actions.

The investigative report further revealed that Dolewon’s conduct endangered the reputation of NSA officials, jeopardized their safety, and undermined national security efforts.

In his statement to the police, Dolewon admitted to the charges, appealing to his superiors for mercy.

However, the investigation has found no merit to his claims of ill-treatment by Deputy Director Dolo.

Instead, investigators suggest Dolewon’s motives were to undermine certain NSA officers, potentially out of personal animus or ulterior motives.

The case has garnered significant attention, as it directly threatens Liberia’s security.

The NSA has emphasized that its personnel must uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and trust, as breaches can have far-reaching consequences for the country’s safety.

Dolewon has been formally charged with unlawful disclosure of confidential information, mishandling sensitive materials, recklessly endangering others, and criminal coercion. His case is now pending a trial in Liberia’s criminal court.
