The Nimba Solidarity Movement for Unity (NSMU) has strongly condemned what it describes as “anti-democratic and insensitive” actions carried out by Hon. Musa Bility and his supporters during a political gathering in Ganta on October 4.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, October 5, 2025, NSMU criticized the public display of placards by Bility’s camp, which they say directly targeted the Vice President, portraying her as their chief political opponent.
The group said the incident signaled a worrying shift in political discourse ~ one that prioritizes personal attacks over substantive policy debate and national development.
“This act sends a troubling message that political parties are being used as platforms to attack individuals rather than promote national development and democratic values,” the statement read.
The NSMU emphasized that true democracy can only thrive through respectful political engagement focused on ideas and development ~ not character assassination.
“We strongly condemn these actions as anti-democratic and insensitive. Democracy thrives when political engagement is centered around ideas, development agendas, and the well-being of the people, not personal attacks,” the statement continued.
Calling for calm and constructive dialogue, NSMU urged Hon. Bility and his Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) to redirect their focus toward community-centered political engagement that strengthens unity and peace in Nimba County.
“Nimbaians have made significant sacrifices over the years to maintain peace, unity, and political relevance both in Nimba County and Liberia at large. We must not allow divisive politics to undermine these achievements,” the group warned.
The statement concluded with a broader appeal to all political actors and supporters across the county to embrace issue-based politics and uphold democratic values.
“Let us work together to ensure Nimba remains a beacon of unity and political maturity in Liberia,” it said.
NSMU is a local civic group advocating for unity, peace, and constructive political engagement in Nimba County.
