NTA Gets Duty Exemption

Monrovia – NTA Gets Duty Exemption: In a move aimed at bolstering Liberia’s transportation sector and enhancing accessibility for its citizens, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has issued Executive Order No. 130.

This executive order grants the National Transit Authority (NTA) significant relief from customs duty payments on essential items such as fuel, lubricants, spare parts, and other necessary components for the efficient operation of its vehicles and machinery.

The NTA, established in 2009 with the noble aim of addressing transportation shortages and providing affordable, reliable, and efficient transportation services across urban and rural areas, has been grappling with financial and economic challenges.

These challenges have hindered its ability to fulfill its mandate effectively, thereby impacting the accessibility and convenience of transportation services for the Liberian populace.

Recognizing the critical role of transportation in facilitating economic growth and social development, President Boakai’s executive order seeks to alleviate the financial burden on the NTA and enhance its capacity to provide affordable and reliable transportation services.

By exempting the NTA from customs duty payments on fuel, lubricants, and spare parts, the government aims to minimize operational costs, reduce hardships, and ensure the smooth functioning of the transportation network.

The decision to issue Executive Order No. 130 underscores the government’s commitment to promoting national reconstruction and development.

As articulated in the Liberian Constitution, the President possesses executive powers to issue orders in the public interest, particularly in situations where immediate action is necessary and cannot await the lengthy legislative processes.

Effective immediately upon publication, this executive order is poised to have a transformative impact on Liberia’s transportation landscape. By facilitating the procurement of essential supplies without the burden of customs duties, the NTA can optimize its resources and focus on delivering high-quality transportation services to the Liberian people.

As Liberia moves forward on its path to progress and development, Executive Order No. 130 stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive growth and prosperity for all.
