The Office of the Ombudsman has formally declared that its former Chairman, Finley Y. Karngar, is no longer authorized to conduct any official business or represent the institution in any capacity.
In a public notice issued through its Secretariat, the Office said the clarification was necessary to prevent public misunderstanding and to safeguard the integrity of its operations.
According to the statement, Karngar’s tenure as Chairman officially ended on March 10, 2026, following the submission of his resignation.
The resignation was subsequently accepted by Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., effectively bringing his leadership of the anti-corruption oversight body to a close. The Office noted that the transition adhered to established administrative procedures.
The Ombudsman emphasized that Karngar no longer holds any position within the institution and therefore lacks the authority to act on its behalf. It cautioned that any individual, organization, or institution that continues to engage him on matters related to the Office would be doing so at their own risk.
“The clarification is intended to prevent the public from being misled,” the statement noted.
Additionally, the Secretariat urged members of the public and government entities to channel all official correspondence and engagements through the appropriate structures within the institution.
It stressed that only communications issued through the Secretariat should be considered legitimate and binding.
The Office of the Ombudsman, established under the laws of the Republic of Liberia, is mandated to enforce the Code of Conduct for public officials and promote transparency and accountability in governance.
The notice, dated March 17, 2026, was issued by the authority of the Board of Commissioners and signed by the Secretariat.
