Grand Kru County- A river accident at the Nyankupo Crossing Point between Sasstown and Dorbor on Monday left several people narrowly escaping death, while one man is feared drowned in the Dorbor River.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of travelers from Pleebo and surrounding towns gathered early in the morning to cross the river, choosing to transport passengers before moving motorbikes and goods.
Seven individuals reportedly boarded the floater, but midway across the river, one side suddenly dipped, sending all seven into the water.
Four passengers swam to safety, while three were left struggling against the river’s strong current.
Community members quickly intervened and succeeded in rescuing two of them, but one man was swept away and remains missing.
Local residents and concerned citizens have launched a search, but the missing traveler, said to be en route from Pleebo, has not yet been found.
The Dorbor River, a vital but often dangerous crossing for residents, is especially treacherous during the rainy season.
