“Only God Can Stop My 2029 Senatorial Bid in River Gee,” Says Former Representative Francis Younge

By Ben T. C. Brooks

Former River Gee District #2 Representative and two-time senatorial aspirant Francis Saywon Younge has vowed to return to the political stage in 2029, declaring that he is fully committed to contesting the county’s Senate seat — unless “the will of God decides otherwise.”

Younge, who served from 2018 to 2023, said the county has suffered setbacks in unity and development since his departure from the House of Representatives.

“During my six-year tenure as Representative, the district experienced meaningful development and a strong sense of unity,” he said. “But today, the citizenry is divided, and that pains me deeply.”

Despite the concerns he raised, Younge did not seek reelection in 2023. Instead, he pursued a second bid for the Senate, following an earlier attempt in the 2020 special senatorial election while still serving as a sitting lawmaker. Both bids were unsuccessful.

Younge reaffirmed his political ambitions on November 15 during a birthday celebration at his Montserrado County residence. The event drew family members, supporters, community leaders, and political allies, many of whom used the occasion to endorse his anticipated return to national politics.

Addressing the gathering, Younge said his decision to run again is driven by an “unbroken dedication to improving the lives of the people of River Gee.”

“Only God can stop me from contesting in 2029,” he declared, expressing appreciation for the continued encouragement he has received from constituents across the county.

While acknowledging his previous losses, Younge insisted the defeats have only strengthened his determination.
“Those losses did not weaken me,” he said. “They strengthened my experience, sharpened my political understanding, and deepened my resolve to serve.”

He described the upcoming 2029 race as “a new opportunity and a clearer path forward,” emphasizing that leadership demands persistence, patience, and purpose.

Younge also reflected on his political journey, including his 2023 Senate run on the People’s Unification Party (PUP) ticket, where he finished third among seven male contenders with 5,215 votes — 18.79% of ballots cast. He said that outcome renewed his commitment to advocate for River Gee’s development.

As the celebration concluded, several supporters pledged loyalty and optimism as preparations for 2029 begin to take shape. Many described Younge as a resilient figure whose persistence continues to resonate with voters across the county.

With nearly four years before the campaign season officially opens, Younge’s early declaration has already set the tone for what is widely expected to be a competitive and closely watched senatorial race in River Gee County.
