Opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has accused Police Inspector General of politicizing the Liberia National Police.
This latest came as a result of a communication addressed to the chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change requesting the presence of CDC to a meeting with the J. Johnny Momoh & Associate Legal Chambers, representing the interest of “the Intestate Estate of the late Martha Stubblefield Bernard”.
In the communication, the Liberia National Police says it was requested by the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Montserrado County to discharge the court’s order.
But, the Opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) stated that “it is downrightly ridiculous that the Liberia National Police known for politicizing its work and being used for political reasons is now considering, yet a deep conspiracy against the CDC through a pretentious meeting”.
According to the CDC, over the past nine months, the Liberia National Police under the leadership of Police IG has exhibited unprofessionalism and reneged on its statutory responsibilities to protect lives, and properties, and uphold the rule of law of the country.
CDC pointed to evident of continuous human rights violations under the Liberia National Police ranging from the Kinjor Massacre, where peaceful citizens were allegedly killed by the Liberia National Police, the shooting of a 17-year-old school-going boy (James Kany) in the rehab community, the death of a former City Police officer, Amanda Nebo who was gruesomely murdered by criminals under the watch of police officers on April 14, 2024.
The party in its response to the LNP name several Liberians who have been murdered including Morris Gomo, on July 02, 2024, Franklin Dargor, on March 12, 2024, Austine Yarkpawolo, on April 17, 2024, Bangalie Kamara.
According the former ruling party, Police allegedly shot to death Essah Massaley on February 28, 2024, Oumar Dukuly, on March 03, 2024, Adama Joe, on February 29, 2024, Armaline Zubah, on June 4, 2024, Dorothy Nyemah, on June 7, 2024, Emmnuel Kollie, on June 7, 2024 Roseline Borbor, on July 2, 2024, Prince Wreyou, on April 12, 2024.
The party also indicated the shooting of a 19-year-old boy, Mohammed Manobah in the Banjor Gas Station community, adding the death of “Joecephus S. Tukpeh” allegedly by LEC power theft team.
The response also indicated police allege invading of the private premises of the CDC’s headquarters, and shooting live bullets, teargassed partisans, damaging over US$50,000 worth of properties, and injured scores of non-civil disobedient partisans.
CDC believes the Liberia National Police has not only proven its highest level of police partisanship. The police under Gregory Colman leadership seems to have re-invented malicious police practices.
“We are not even surprised that history tells us that you Gregory Coleman worked with the then Charles Taylor notorious elite and deadly Police unit known as “Sons of Demons” (SOD), who were accustomed to perpetrating major crimes and tortures on citizens including the March 21, 2001 invasion of the state- run university of Liberia, where innocent and harmless university students were being mercilessly beaten, raped, tortured, forcefully recruiting students into war front and indicting them as dissident collaborators As result of Gregory’s mysterious past, this situation however chased scores of students into exile.”, the communication stated.
The party stated: “Today, Gregory Coleman is known for reinstating dismissed police officers who were caught in armed robberies and other major crimes such as officer Sam Ballah, Johnny B. Dean, 106, Otis Wallace, Jr. Deputy Director for Armed Robberies and officer Victor Gbayeh. These officers currently sit at the apex of police functionalities. Something that is leading to the unprecedented frequencies of armed robberies cases across the country, as Mr. Coleman goes on Tiktok to create videos, showing gross insensitivity towards major police crimes. Under Mr. Coleman, our community is now vulnerable, and the state is being engulfed with fear and pandemonium among peaceful citizens.”
According to CDC, while internal crimes are occurring daily, the Police IG sees nothing wrong with them but to invite the victim (the CDC) of the August 5 and 22 2024 Police invasions.
The party however rejected the LNP communication indicating: “We may forget the days of our abusers but not their names and scares they have caused us, as such, we do not see it necessary to sit with the Liberia National Police until justice is served to our fallen patriots.”
The Congress for Democratic Change said Police IG Gregory Coleman now has the opportunity to investigate and prosecute himself and his co-perpetrators for allege crimes committed against the CDC and the people of Liberia.
“You also have the opportunity to cease and desist from allowing Mr. Boakai weap
