The Ruling Unity Party National Youth Congress (UPNYC) has come down hard on some public officials involved with opulence, greed, and infighting. The UPNYC has expressed grave concern about what they termed as opulent salaries and wage structures at the Liberia Telecommunication Authority and all other State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
The youth congress said it supports President Boakai’s decision to review all salaries and benefits of SOEs to ensure a transparent, just, and equitable system. The UPNYC has also been alarmed over Commerce Minister Amin Modad’s decision to purchase a US$96,000 luxurious 2024 Chevy Suburban at a time when the country’s economy is challenged. The youth congress has called on Minister Modad to immediately return the people’s vehicle.
“We call upon President Boakai’s Administration to take swift action on the General Auditing Commission (GAC) audit reports. We beseech the President to expedite the prosecutorial processes to ensure impunity. The UPNYC is concerned about the revelation of opulent salaries and wage structures within the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) as is the case with other SOEs. We support the President’s call for an immediate review of all salaries and benefits of SOEs across the government. We express strong disapproval of Minister Modad’s US$96,000 luxurious Chevrolet suburban vehicle. We urge Minister Amin Modad to return the Liberian People’s Car. It is already an annoyance and a bad omen that our Roads are in unpleasurable state, especially during this time of the year.” Ruling Unity Party Youth League
The has also called on President Boakai to put an end to impunity in Liberia by expediting prosecutorial processes that will eventually lead to a society of zero tolerance for impunity. The UPNYC accused the CDC-led government of committing State plunder and economic mayhem. The youth congress is however calling on President Joseph Boakai to hold accountable past officials who allegedly mismanaged public resources and abused power.
While expressing its commitment to supporting President Boakai in delivering on his promises of reform, growth, and accountability, UPNYC has called on all public officials to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal luxury.
