Over 15 Liberians Detained in Japan Cry for Urgent Government Intervention

Monrovia — More than 15 Liberians who recently traveled to Japan under the 2025 Expo Program are reportedly being held in immigration detention for over two weeks.

The detainees, whose conditions remain unclear, are urgently appealing for swift intervention from authorities back home. In particular, they are calling on Madam Juli Endee and Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Edward Appleton, to step in and ensure their immediate release.

Family members in Liberia have also expressed growing concern over the prolonged detention, urging the Liberian government to take decisive action to protect its citizens abroad.

We don’t know what’s going on. We don’t know how and why they are being detained. The government has to do something,” a family member told Verity News. It is not yet clear what led to their detention.

The incident has sparked mounting public interest, with many calling for clarity on why the Liberians were detained and what steps are being taken to secure their freedom.
