River Gee County – [June 26, 2025] – In observance of International Drug Day, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has distroyed narcotics valued over fourteen million Liberian dollars in River Gee County.
26th June, each year is globally recognized as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, since its establishment in 1989 through the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 42/112 on December 7, 1987.
Liberia durg enforcement agency, Agent Richard N. Nango, Commander of the River Gee detachment, expressed gratitude to many residents for their cooperation in combating drug-related issues.
He highlighted the severe risks linked to drug abuse and trafficking, at the same time urged local communities to remain vigilant in identifying and reporting drug dealers and users to safeguard public health and safety.
During the burning process, the LDEA County head also specified substances destroyed, includes confiscated grams of both raw and mixed Kush and Heroin, along with kilograms of Marijuana, precursors, and tramadol, all collectively valued over LD$14 million.
Also speaking, River Gee County Attorney and head of joint security, Atty. Fofie V. Kamara, commended the LDEA and local residents for their collaborative efforts in the war against narcotics.
He added the necessity of collective responsibility and ongoing vigilance in the effort to tackle drug-related problems.
Residents have therefore expressed their appreciation for the agency’s active role in the community and vowed to continue assisting in identifying and reporting drug-related activities.
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), established on December 23, 1998, operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice and is tasked with combating drug trafficking throughout the nation, particularly at the borders.
The burning of these illegal drugs sends a strong statement about the LDEA’s commitment to tackling drug-related issues in Liberia.
Engaging with the community and providing public education will continue to be vital components of the LDEA’s strategy as it strives to create a safer environment for the people of River Gee.
The event not only demonstrates the agency’s dedication but also tackles an increasing concern in Liberia regarding the effects of drug trafficking on public health and safety.
As the LDEA pursues its objectives, it aims to establish collaborative partnerships that strengthen unified efforts against drug abuse and trafficking across the nation.
