Monrovia, Liberia – The Peace Island Community in Congo Town, District #10, Montserrado County, is gearing up for a major transformation of its sports ground, as plans are underway to convert the rocky community pitch into an artificial turf and multi-purpose sports facility.
According to the Chairman of the Project Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Neufville, the official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for early October this year, while actual construction is expected to commence in early November.
The project, which carries an estimated cost of US$109,560, is being financed through community initiatives and external support. Chairman Neufville revealed that the committee has set a target to secure at least 60 percent of the required funds before the project kicks off. He expressed optimism that this benchmark will be reached.
“Since the launch of the project in June this year, we have been engaging stakeholders at the community, township, district, and county levels. The level of interest and support has been encouraging,” Neufville said.
He extended special appreciation to community residents who continue to contribute through the “One Dollar Campaign,” a grassroots fundraising drive that has helped mobilize much-needed resources.
The facility, once completed, will not only provide a safe and modern space for football but also serve as a hub for multiple sports and community activities.
The Peace Island Sports Project is expected to be completed by March 2026, marking a significant milestone in the community’s drive to enhance youth development and recreation.
