Police, LDEA, and Community Raid Ghettos in King Gray

Monrovia, August 21, 2025 – A joint operation involving the Liberia National Police (LNP), the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), and community members early Thursday morning stormed several suspected ghettos in King Gray, District #6, Montserrado County.

The operation, which residents described as “long overdue,” comes amid rising concerns over drug trafficking and abuse in King Gray, a community widely considered one of Liberia’s hotspots for illicit substances.

Authorities are yet to provide details on the number of arrests made or the quantity of drugs seized during the raid. However, eyewitnesses confirmed that several suspected drug peddlers and users fled the scene as security forces moved in.

Community leaders welcomed the exercise, describing it as a strong signal of collaboration between residents and law enforcement to reclaim their neighborhoods from the grip of narcotics.

This is a good step,” the community youth leader told this paper. “But we want to see sustainability, not just a one-day show.”

The LDEA has in recent months intensified anti-drug operations across Monrovia, following a surge in public demand for stronger measures to tackle the drug crisis that continues to devastate families and communities.
