Margibi County, Liberia — Political activist and former youth leader of ANC Gabriel Kuleh has launched a scathing critique of Representative Clarence Gahr of Margibi 5th district, raising serious concerns over the lawmaker’s acquisition of a yellow machine reportedly intended for public works in District #5, Margibi County.
In a powerful Facebook post on Monday, Kuleh accused Rep. Gahr of deception, financial misrepresentation, and a lack of transparency surrounding the machine, which Gahr claimed cost over US$400,000.
“While my previous comments sparked controversy, with some labeling me ‘envious, hateful, and jealous,’ such reckless attacks do not diminish the validity of my concerns,” Kuleh wrote. “Rep. Gahr must be held accountable.”
Accusations of Falsehood Against Senator Nuquay
At the center of Kuleh’s criticism is Rep. Gahr’s shifting narrative regarding Senator Emmanuel Nuquay. During the 2023 legislative campaign, Gahr alleged that Nuquay used his political influence to block the entry of the machine at the Freeport of Monrovia. According to Kuleh, Gahr has now contradicted himself, claiming he was “scammed” by the seller and that the matter is in court.
“This is a man openly confessing to being a blatant and pathological liar,” Kuleh charged. “He owes Senator Nuquay and the people of District #5 an apology.”
Kuleh questioned the authenticity of Gahr’s legal claims, calling for the lawmaker to present court documents and official evidence to support the new version of events.
Doubts Over Cost and Funding
Kuleh also cast doubt on the stated cost of the machine, which Rep. Gahr pegged at over US$400,000, including port clearance fees. He argued that similar machines typically cost between US$75,000 and US$100,000.
“If his figures are accurate, this raises the possibility of gross financial mismanagement or deliberate misinformation,” Kuleh stated.
He further questioned whether Rep. Gahr misused his legislative privilege for duty-free importation, and demanded clarification on the source of the funding ~ whether from personal funds, district development money, or corporate social responsibility contributions.
Ownership and Public Access
Another key issue raised by Kuleh is the ownership of the machine. While Rep. Gahr has suggested the equipment belongs to the district, Kuleh cited anonymous sources from within Gahr’s support base who claim the machine is being used privately ~ for the Representative’s personal farm and rental business.
“We want to see documents that prove this machine is registered under the district or development council,” Kuleh said. “It must remain for public use beyond Gahr’s tenure.”
Kuleh expressed skepticism over Gahr’s recent claim that the machine would be deployed in the dry season, describing it as a tactic to “appease critics” without offering meaningful transparency or accountability.
Call for Accountability
Wrapping up his critique, Kuleh warned that until Rep. Gahr offers clear and verifiable answers, constituents should not applaud the delivery of the yellow machine as a fulfilled campaign promise.
“We are taxpayers. I am his employer ~ and so, he needs to answer,” Kuleh concluded. “This is not politics as usual. This is about integrity, accountability, and public trust.”
As public interest around the controversial machine continues to grow, Rep. Gahr has pledged to address the allegation through his office shortly.
