Pres. Boakai Commissions Landmark Model Senior Secondary School in Margibi

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Thursday, March 19, 2026, officially commissioned the Kakata Senior Secondary Model School, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to expand access to quality post-primary education beyond the capital, Monrovia.

The new facility, implemented by the Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank under the IRISE Project, represents a US$1.6 million investment aimed at transforming senior secondary education in Margibi County. It is the county’s first model school dedicated to Grades 10 through 12.

Designed to accommodate up to 750 students, the school features 15 classrooms, fully equipped science laboratories, and an information and communications technology (ICT) lab. It also includes solar-powered water systems and disability-inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, with ramps and accessible infrastructure to support students of all abilities.

Officials say the project is intended not only to expand capacity but also to set a benchmark for teaching standards, school management, and student outcomes nationwide.

During the commissioning ceremony, students formally gowned the Minister of Education, while traditional leaders honored a senior World Bank representative, underscoring cooperation between local communities, government authorities, and international partners.

In remarks delivered at the event, the education minister described the school as more than a new facility, calling it a model for effective education delivery grounded in strong leadership, consistent instruction, practical learning, and accountability.

President Boakai urged residents of Kakata and surrounding communities to take ownership of the institution, emphasizing that its long-term success will depend on local support and active engagement.

The opening of the Kakata Senior Secondary Model School comes amid broader efforts by the Liberian government to strengthen education infrastructure and improve learning outcomes across the country, particularly in underserved counties.
