Pres. Boakai Convenes Cabinet Meeting in Tubmanburg, Focuses on Jobs, Drug Abuse, and 2026 Budget

TUBMANBURG, Bomi County — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Tuesday convened a full cabinet meeting in Tubmanburg, bringing key members of his administration together outside the capital to review national priorities and accelerate the government’s development agenda.

The gathering, part of the administration’s effort to decentralize governance activities, placed strong emphasis on the government’s new job-creation program targeting Liberia’s youth. According to officials at the meeting, the initiative is expected to outline measures aimed at expanding employment opportunities, strengthening skills training, and aligning young people with emerging sectors of the economy.

Another major focus of deliberations is the government’s ongoing campaign to combat the spread and abuse of illicit drugs. Cabinet ministers are expected to present revised strategies to reinforce rehabilitation programs, increase enforcement efforts, and broaden public-awareness campaigns—areas the administration has repeatedly identified as critical to national security and public health.

The Ministry of Finance briefed the cabinet on the status of the proposed 2026 national budget. The draft budget, estimated at US$1.2 billion, is among the most significant items on today’s agenda, with discussions expected to center on revenue projections, spending priorities, and the administration’s broader fiscal direction.

Other national issues—including infrastructure, health, education, and regional development— were discussed during the one-day session.

The cabinet meeting is part of a series of ongoing engagements intended to strengthen policy coordination and ensure that the Boakai administration’s development objectives remain on track as it moves into the next budget cycle.
