Liberia’s President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has emphasized the importance of inclusivity and shared benefits in global economic and developmental programs.
Speaking at the opening of the 2024 Korea-African Summit, President Boakai highlighted the need for countries to work together to promote sustainable development and shared prosperity.

President Boakai emphasized that the twin processes of globalization and technological advancement have spurred growth and economic development globally, but have also led to unequal outcomes for different regions. He noted that while some countries have benefited from these processes, others have been left behind, and that “shared growth” is essential to ensure that all people benefit from economic development.
The Liberian President also highlighted the importance of sustainability in promoting economic development. He emphasized that resources are not infinite and that sustainable development must be achieved through the judicious use of natural resources.
Liberia, as a custodian of the equatorial rainforest, intends to promote a sustainable future by leveraging this natural asset to contribute to the fight against climate change.
President Boakai also emphasized the importance of South-South cooperation in addressing global challenges. He noted that nations gathered at the summit have shared experiences and common objectives to improve the social and economic conditions of their populations. He emphasized that by working together, countries can address complex global challenges such as climate change, disease, hunger, poverty, and many others.
The Liberian Leader added that the future is not guaranteed and that it is up to nations to deliberately take actions to achieve common goals and foster a better future for their people. He highlighted firm partnership with countries like Korea, “which has taught us the importance of human capital in transforming the future of any nation”, as an essential tool to achieving goal.
