Pres. Boakai Meets with U.S Deputy Secretary of State to Boost Economic and Diplomatic Ties

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Liberian President Joseph Boakai on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in Washington to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for economic cooperation between the United States and Liberia.

According to a statement from State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the two leaders discussed expanding U.S.-Liberian commercial initiatives, with a focus on mining, small business development, and broader private enterprise opportunities.

Both sides emphasized the importance of deepening investment in Liberia’s growing economic sectors.

Deputy Secretary Landau also praised a recent agreement to increase multi-user access to Liberia’s railway system ~

PL toa move seen as a significant step in boosting regional infrastructure and facilitating economic growth.

The deal is expected to create new opportunities for trade and transport, benefiting both nations.

In addition to economic matters, Landau welcomed Liberia’s upcoming term on the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027. The two leaders pledged to work closely on shared diplomatic priorities during Liberia’s tenure on the council.

The U.S. Embassy in Monrovia confirmed the meeting and underscored Washington’s continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s development and regional leadership.

The meeting highlights the Trump administration’s broader efforts to engage with African nations as strategic partners in global economic and security issues.
