Monrovia, Liberia ~ President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Wednesday , September 3, 2025, nominated Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, current President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA), as Chairman of the Law Reform Commission alongside Cllr. Massa Jallabah as Commissioner of the same body.
As for the Governance Commission, the Liberian leader nominated Mr. Matthew Ballah Kollie, Jr., Commissioner for National Integrity System.
The late Wednesday appointment favored Rev. John W. Smith as City Mayor of Marshall City in Margibi County ~ the county that hosts the Roberts International Airport.
In order to combat hunger in the country, president Joseph Nymah Boakai appointed the ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as chair and Co-chair respectively at the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) Board
Others appointed at NFAA Board are:
Ministry of Education – Member
Ministry of Commerce – Member
Ministry of Internal Affairs – Member
General Services Agency – Member
Liberia Chamber of Commerce – Member
Liberia Marketing Association – Member
National Food Assistance Agency Executive Director – Secretary to the Board
In a statement issued by the Executive Mansion, President Boakai emphasized that these nominations are part of his administration’s commitment to effective governance, accountability, and community-centered leadership.
“I expect each appointee to serve with integrity, loyalty, and dedication,” President Boakai said. “Their work must lead to stronger public institutions and visible results for the Liberian people.”
As it stands, the nominated names are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
