President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has suspended Emma Metieh-Glassco, Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), following a recommendation from the institution’s Board of Directors.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, paves the way for further investigations by the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).
An Executive Mansion statement confirmed that President Boakai acted based on a Board resolution citing financial and managerial inefficiencies under Glassco’s leadership.
The release further stated that the decision aligns with Section 3.9.2 of the Act establishing NaFAA, granting the Board authority to intervene in governance issues.
Additionally, the suspension follows a communication from the Office of the Ombudsman, which accused Glassco of displaying insulting behavior during an official investigation.
The Ombudsman’s office invoked Section 11.10 of the Code of Conduct Act, deeming her actions inappropriate for a public official.
In his directive, President Boakai urged Glassco to cooperate with the ongoing investigations, emphasizing the need for accountability in public service.
Her suspension marks the third time in two weeks that a high-ranking government official has been removed from office over corruption allegations.
