Pres. Boakai Underscores TVET and Rural Development

Gbarnga, Bong County – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai during the weekend delivered the keynote address at the 4th Graduation Ceremony of Bong County Technical College (BCTC), held in Gbarnga, Bong County. The occasion marked a moment of pride, inspiration, and renewed national purpose as hundreds of graduates were conferred degrees in various technical and academic disciplines.

Addressing a packed audience of graduates, faculty, government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, and proud family members, President Boakai commended the Class of 2025 for their perseverance and dedication, declaring:

“Today is a day of triumph, a moment of fulfillment, and a new beginning for the graduates seated before us. Our nation needs trained youth for development and progress. I salute you all for your hard work. You have made us proud.”

President Boakai reflected on the journey of Bong County Technical College since its founding in 2010, highlighting the institution’s transformation amidst past struggles, including accreditation challenges, student unrest, and infrastructure deficits. He commended Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, Sr., and his leadership team for the College’s remarkable turnaround and bold strategic vision to become a full-fledged university.

In a forward-looking message, the President emphasized the central role of technical education and innovation in Liberia’s future, noting that institutions like BCTC are essential to the success of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

“From artificial intelligence to renewable energy and precision agriculture, the pace of global progress is fast, and we cannot afford to be left behind. Technical knowledge is not a luxury—it is a necessity,” the President stated.

He further stressed the need for decentralizing educational opportunities and ensuring that rural communities are not left behind:

“Let Bong County Technical College be a model of how rural Liberia can lead, not lag behind. We believe that no child should be denied opportunity simply because of where they were born.”

Calling on the graduates to lead with integrity, courage, and innovation, President Boakai reminded them that their education is both a privilege and a national duty.

“Liberia needs you. Your country is calling on you to serve—not just with your qualifications, but with your character. Be bold. Be visionary. Use your skills to build Liberia.”

The President closed his address with a rallying call to all Liberians:

“No nation can rise without its youth. No economy can thrive without skills. And no dream can be fulfilled without hard work. Think Liberia. Love Liberia. Build Liberia.”

The Bong County Technical College Graduation Ceremony is a milestone in the Government’s efforts to advance inclusive, equitable, and quality education in all regions of Liberia. It reflects the Boakai Administration’s broader commitment to performance-based leadership, rural empowerment, and sustainable development
