Pres. Boakai Urges Supreme Court Justices to Uphold Fairness and Integrity

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on the Justices of the Supreme Court to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their duties. Speaking during the official opening of the Supreme Court’s March Term of Court for A.D. 2025, President Boakai emphasized the importance of fairness and impartiality in the judiciary, stating that prosperity should serve as the ultimate judge for those on the bench.

“Let the work of the judiciary be fair, and let prosperity judge those on the bench,” President Boakai remarked, urging the Justices to remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The President’s address to the legal community, including legal luminaries and members of the judiciary, underscored the critical role of the judiciary in Liberia’s democracy. He reminded those present that the judiciary must remain independent and decisive in its role of delivering justice, emphasizing the need for fairness and equality in all cases.

“I welcome you back, the Justices of the Supreme Court. As you open the March 2025 Term, I hope you have rested well and conducted ample legal research to deliver justice without fear or favor, as required by the Liberian Constitution,” President Boakai said.

The President also highlighted the judiciary’s essential role in ensuring national stability and prosperity, acknowledging its contribution as a cornerstone of Liberia’s democracy.

During his address, President Boakai took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the judiciary, commending Chief Justice Sie-Nyene G. Yuoh for her exceptional leadership since assuming office in 2022. He praised Chief Justice Yuoh for maintaining the integrity and independence of the judiciary, noting that her stewardship has been instrumental in strengthening the rule of law in Liberia.

“The bedrock of our democracy is a strong and independent judiciary that dispenses justice without fear or favor,” President Boakai asserted, reinforcing his belief in the importance of an impartial judiciary in Liberia’s democratic framework.

The President further urged the Justices of the Supreme Court to continue their work with unwavering commitment to fairness, ensuring that justice is dispensed equitably in all cases before them. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with the judiciary to ensure its effective and efficient operation.

Additionally, President Boakai emphasized the importance of upholding the separation of powers between the three branches of government, a principle that has been foundational in Liberia since its establishment in 1847. He also called for fair hearings, ensuring that all individuals involved in legal proceedings are given an equal opportunity to present their cases.
