Pres. Trump Reaffirms U.S.-Liberia Ties in Independence Day Message to Pres. Boakai

Monrovia, Liberia – U.S. President Donald J. Trump has reaffirmed the United States’ enduring commitment to its partnership with Liberia in a formal Independence Day message addressed to President Joseph N. Boakai, as the country celebrates its 178th year of independence.

In the letter, President Trump extended warm congratulations on behalf of the American people and government, emphasizing the deep historical connection and shared democratic values between the two nations.

He described his recent White House meeting with President Boakai as a “great honor,” expressing appreciation for the continued strengthening of bilateral ties.

“This Independence Day is a time to reflect on our mutual commitment to democracy, economic development, and regional stability,” Trump wrote. “We look forward to deepening our cooperation for the benefit of both our countries.”

The message comes as Liberia pushes forward with post-pandemic recovery and democratic consolidation under President Boakai’s leadership.

Trump commended Boakai’s efforts to promote peace and prosperity, noting Liberia’s important role in advancing good governance and sustainable development across West Africa.

Liberian officials in Monrovia welcomed the message as a reaffirmation of long-standing U.S. support for the country’s diplomatic, economic, and security priorities.

Analysts view the gesture as a sign of Washington’s intent to bolster collaboration in key areas such as infrastructure, public health, youth development, and institutional reform.
Founded in part by freed African Americans in the 1800s, Liberia shares one of the oldest continuous bilateral relationships with the United States-an enduring legacy both governments have vowed to uphold and enhance.

As the nation marks its Independence Day, President Trump’s message has added a strong note of international goodwill, reinforcing shared aspirations for a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous future.
