Yokohama, Japan — In a significant diplomatic engagement today, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia met with Dr. Takeharu Yamanaka, the Mayor of Yokohama, Japan’s second-largest city, which boasts a population of over 3.7 million residents. The disclosure was made via the Liberian leader’s Official Facebook Page on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
During their meeting, the leaders explored various avenues for city-to-city cooperation, focusing on critical areas such as water supply, waste management, port operations, and the transfer of technical knowledge.
President Boakai extended a warm invitation to Mayor Yamanaka to visit Liberia, expressing his eagerness to engage with the country’s major cities, including the capital, Monrovia.
“This partnership holds great promise for strengthening Liberia’s maritime position, advancing urban renewal, and fostering people-to-people ties that support the ARREST Agenda,” President Boakai stated, highlighting the potential benefits of the collaboration for both nations.
