Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Monday joined several West and Central African leaders in Abidjan for the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara, who was sworn in for a new term during a ceremony that underscored Côte d’Ivoire’s growing political influence in the region.
The event drew a high-profile gathering of Heads of State, including Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government; Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama; Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye; Gambian President Adama Barrow; Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema; and Congo-Brazzaville’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso, among others.
President Boakai’s attendance, according to the Executive Mansion, reflects Liberia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with its neighbors and supporting regional stability.
On the sidelines of the inauguration, President Boakai held a brief meeting with President Ouattara, during which he extended warm congratulations and praised Côte d’Ivoire’s continued progress under Ouattara’s leadership. He noted that the country’s stability and rising regional role remain essential to West Africa’s collective advancement.
The Liberian leader also reaffirmed Liberia’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in areas that promote peace, cross-border security, trade, and mutual development.
President Boakai emphasized that the future of West Africa depends on “collective action,” pledging Liberia’s sustained engagement with regional partners to enhance security, expand economic opportunities, and foster a stable environment for citizens across the subregion.
