President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. and senior members of the Executive Branch have paid tribute to the late Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Hon. Sylvester M. Grigsby, describing his death as a profound loss to the nation.
In a solemn commiseration gathering held Monday at the President’s Rehab Office in Paynesville, the Cabinet—led by its Dean, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti—joined the Liberian leader in honoring the memory of their fallen colleague. The event, coordinated by Director of the Cabinet Nathaniel Kwabo, brought together senior government officials for prayers and heartfelt tributes.
Speakers remembered Minister Grigsby as a steady, calm, and deeply committed public servant who dedicated his career to national service. “Sylvester will remain in my memory as a brother,” President Boakai reflected, recalling a relationship that spanned more than six decades. He described Grigsby as a trusted ally whose counsel and loyalty were invaluable.
President Boakai learned of the Minister’s passing on Saturday evening, August 9, while returning from an official engagement in Sanniquellie, Nimba County. Grigsby died earlier that day at the Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, United States.
The Government of Liberia is working closely with the Grigsby family to finalize funeral arrangements, which will be announced in the coming days.
