President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has emphasized the need for stronger coordination among government ministries to ensure that Bio Chico operations contribute positively to Liberia’s economy while safeguarding public safety, particularly as major road construction projects are set to begin.
Speaking during a recent engagement at the company sites in Gbarpolu county, President Boakai acknowledged that Bio Chico businesses are a viable and important part of Liberia’s economic landscape.
However, he stressed that their heavy use of major roads and public facilities requires careful regulation and cooperation across government institutions.
“Bio Chico is a viable economic operation in Liberia, but they are also users of our major roads and facilities,”
President Boakai said. “I have been thinking about their use of the roads and how their operations impact the lives of the public and other people who are using the roads.”
The President noted that with construction work soon to commence on a major highway, it is essential for all stakeholders—including transport operators, contractors, and government agencies—to work together to promote safety and efficiency.
“Construction work is about to start on a major highway, and we want to see how all of them can work together to bring safety to the public while operating in efficient ways that will benefit both them and the country,” he stated.
Addressing concerns about permits and regulatory compliance, President Boakai clarified that relevant authorities are responsible for those matters, but his focus remains on inter-ministerial collaboration.
“I don’t know about permits. We have people here who are responsible for that, and they will be working on it,” the President explained.
According to him, his focus was about finding ways for the relevant authorities to come together to streamline the operations of Bio Chico.
“My curiosity is about how these ministries will come together to streamline their operations in ways that provide safety and economic benefits to the country,” he added.
President Boakai’s remarks underscore his administration’s commitment to balancing economic growth with public safety, accountability, and effective governance as Liberia continues its infrastructure development efforts.
