President Boakai Declares July 30 a National Day of Prayer for Peace and Reconciliation

In a heartfelt call for unity and healing, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has declared Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a National Day of Prayer, urging all Liberians to gather in places of worship to seek divine guidance and renew their collective commitment to peace and national reconciliation.

The announcement came during Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 26, held at the historic Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia. The Prayer is in continuation of the Independence Day celebration which carries the theme, “One People, One Destiny: Healing the Past and Building the Future,” underscoring the nation’s focus on unity, reflection, and forward progress.

In his address to the nation, President Boakai emphasized the importance of spiritual reflection in the nation’s journey toward lasting peace and inclusive development.

‘With this conviction, I hereby declare Wednesday, July 30, 2025, as a National Day of Prayer” the president declared “On this day, I call on all Liberians, our partners, and everyone within the borders of Liberia to gather in our churches, mosques, and other places of worship to seek God’s face. We should ask for His continued blessing upon our land, and to renew our covenant for peace, unity, and a reconciled Liberia”.

He called on citizens of all religious backgrounds ~ Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers ~ to use the day to gather in mosques, churches, and sacred spaces across the country to pray for unity, forgiveness, and national progress.

The National Day of Prayer, set for July 30, will be observed with special interfaith services expected in the country.

Religious and civil society leaders welcomed the president’s declaration, viewing it as a timely and meaningful gesture in a country still healing from years of civil unrest and social division.

As Liberia marks another year of independence, the call for prayer and reconciliation is seen by many as a hopeful step in forging a more united and peaceful nation.
