President Boakai Defends Eviction And Demolition of CDC Headquarters: “The Law is the Law”

By Archie Boan

Monrovia, Liberia ~ President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has broken his silence on the eviction and demolition of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Headquarters, describing the action as a lawful enforcement of government authority.

Speaking to reporters at Roberts International Airport on Saturday following his return from an official visit to Tokyo, Japan, President Boakai defended the government’s decision, stating unequivocally that the matter was rooted in legality.

“The Law is the Law. It is the Government’s implementation of the Law. The Police were ordered to do it. And they did it. And that demolition is simply the removal of the people from the premises that do not belong to them according to the law,” the President said.

The CDC Headquarters was recently the subject of a forceful eviction and demolition operation carried out by the Liberia National Police, a move that has sparked widespread public debate and sharp criticism from opposition figures and party loyalists.

Boakai’s comments come amid mounting scrutiny over the perceived use of state power against a major opposition party. Critics argue that the demolition may have political undertones, while government officials maintain that it was a matter of legal property rights and court orders.

President Boakai’s statement reinforces his administration’s position that the action was not politically motivated but was in accordance with the law.

As tensions continue to simmer, the implications of the incident remain a key point of national conversation, with both the government and opposition expected to address the matter further in the coming days.
