President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has dismissed the Director General and Deputy Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), citing administrative reasons.
The Executive Mansion announced today that Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan and Dr. Adams K. Lincoln has been relieved of their duties effective immediately.
The decision is part of the President’s broader effort to strengthen public institutions and promote accountability within key sectors of government.
To ensure continuity, the President has appointed Dr. Sia Wata Camanor as Interim Director General (Officer-in-Charge) of NPHIL. Dr. Camanor has been tasked with coordinating closely with the NPHIL Board, the Ministry of Health, and other relevant stakeholders to maintain stability at the public health institution during the leadership transition.
The statement from the Executive Mansion emphasized that these actions reflect President Boakai’s “commitment to fostering effective leadership, accountability, and institutional efficiency across all sectors of government.”
New Appointments Also Announced Alongside the NPHIL leadership change, President Boakai made a series of appointments at the Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs: Ministry of Justice- Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby, II, Director, Witness Protection Unit – Mr. Varney Ali Sheriff, Deputy Director, Witness Protection Unit, Dr. Stephen D. Paye, Probation and Parole Administrator Ministry of Internal Affairs- Mr. Amos T. F. Kemeyah, County Relieving Commissioner, Lofa County.
The reshuffling comes amid growing calls for improved service delivery and greater transparency in the country’s governance framework.
The move to change leadership at NPHIL, an institution critical to national health security, marks one of the most notable decisions in President Boakai’s recent wave of reforms.
