President Boakai Grants Executive Clemency to 75 Inmates on Liberia’s 178th Independence Day

As part of Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebrations, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is set to grant executive clemency to 75 inmates from correctional facilities across the country. The gesture, announced by the Executive Mansion, is aimed at promoting national reconciliation and demonstrating the government’s commitment to second chances.

The official clemency ceremony will take place this morning at the Monrovia Central Prison, located in Montserrado County. According to officials, the selected inmates have met the required criteria, including good behavior and time served, making them eligible for the presidential pardon.

The event is expected to be attended by top government officials, representatives of the justice sector, and families of some of the inmates. The move underscores the Boakai administration’s focus on justice reform and efforts to address prison overcrowding across Liberia.

This year’s Independence Day celebration is being marked under the umbrella of unity, peace, and national development, with a series of events highlighting the country’s progress and ongoing challenges.
