President Joseph Boakai officially launched a newly renovated maternal ward at the Pipeline Clinic, marking a significant milestone in improving maternal healthcare in Liberia.
The renovation project, completed within two weeks, was spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady, Kartumu Y. Boakai. The initiative aims to provide pregnant women with access to a safer and healthier environment for childbirth, reducing the risks associated with maternal and neonatal care.
Speaking at the launch, President Boakai expressed gratitude to attendees and commended the nurses for their dedication. He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming lives through healthcare, emphasizing its importance under the ARREST Agenda.
“This initiative is not about seeking praises but about fulfilling our responsibility to serve the people and create opportunities for all Liberians,” said President Boakai. He described the project as a demonstration of love, leadership, and a genuine interest in the well-being of citizens.
First Lady Kartumu Y. Boakai highlighted the initiative as a collective effort to address the critical challenges of maternal and neonatal mortality in Liberia.
“We want to ensure that every woman approaches motherhood with confidence, knowing she will receive the care and support she deserves, with the promise of returning home safely with her child,” the First Lady said.
She also linked the dedication of the maternal ward to the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, calling it a wake-up call to end sexual violence and improve the lives of women and children.
The renovated maternal ward is expected to significantly enhance the quality of maternal healthcare, providing much-needed hope to women and families across Liberia.
