President Boakai Meets Pope Francis at the Vatican

Vatican City, Italy — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, was received in a private audience by Pope Francis on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

Following his audience with the Pope, President Boakai met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

Their talks focused on Liberia’s social and economic landscape, reaffirming a mutual commitment to fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development.

They also exchanged insights on pressing international and regional issues, particularly the challenges of migration and its effects on African nations.

The discussions emphasized the necessity of international cooperation to address the underlying causes of migration, uphold human rights, and promote development across the continent.

President Boakai reiterated his appreciation for the Holy See’s ongoing support and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing the partnership with the Catholic Church for the betterment of Liberia.
