President Boakai Pledges Major Infrastructure Overhaul in Lofa County

VOINJAMA, LOFA COUNTY – During the 60th anniversary celebration of Bong, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba Counties on December 21, 2024, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving Liberia’s infrastructure, particularly the road network connecting Lofa County to Maryland County. The President pledged to pave the road within two years, describing it as a cornerstone of his government’s development agenda.

Addressing the gathering in Voinjama City, President Boakai highlighted the progress already made on the Lofa-to-Maryland road, referencing improvements since his campaign visit last year. “The roads are better now, but we will not stop until they are fully paved. We are committed to ensuring these roads transform lives,” he stated.

In addition to the road project, President Boakai announced plans to invest in education and healthcare infrastructure. He emphasized the need to provide quality services that address the daily challenges of Liberians. “Our mission is to create opportunities and improve healthcare and education for our people,” he said.

The anniversary event marked a milestone in the shared history of the four counties, which gained county status in 1964 under the leadership of former President William V.S. Tubman. President Boakai used the occasion to advocate for greater unity, urging citizens to collaborate for the common good.

In further demonstrations of his administration’s support for Lofa County, the President made several contributions to local institutions. He donated $25,000 to the infrastructural and academic programs of the Voinjama Multilateral High School, along with educational materials through the Cytarus Initiative. Additionally, he provided $5,000 and medical supplies to Tellewoyan Hospital in Voinjama City.

President Boakai also dedicated the “After the Rain Guest House” in Voinjama City, underscoring the government’s broader commitment to enhancing the county’s economic potential.

Residents of Lofa County welcomed the announcements with enthusiasm, expressing optimism about the anticipated economic and social benefits of improved infrastructure and government investment. Construction on the Lofa-to-Maryland road is expected to commence soon.
