Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., arrived in Washington, D.C. this week for a highly anticipated U.S.-Africa Summit hosted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump. The summit, set to take place today, Wednesday at the White House, brings together five African Heads of State for high-level discussions on economic development, security, infrastructure, and democratic governance.
In the lead-up to the historic event, President Boakai spent Tuesday in a series of strategic consultations and diplomatic meetings aimed at strengthening Liberia’s engagement with the United States.
Among his key meetings was a briefing with Dr. Massad F. Boulous, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on African Affairs. Dr. Boulous provided critical insights into U.S. foreign policy and emphasized America’s ongoing commitment to deepening cooperation across the African continent.
President Boakai also received a courtesy visit from Paula Michelle White-Cain, Spiritual Advisor to President Trump. The two leaders rekindled a relationship that began during the 65th National Congressional Prayer Breakfast in 2017. Mrs. White-Cain offered prayers and words of encouragement for Boakai’s leadership and the summit’s success.
In a bid to bolster economic ties, the Liberian leader held a working session with a delegation from the U.S.-Africa Business Center, led by President Kendra L. Gaither. Talks focused on enhancing trade, investment, and private sector engagement between Liberia and the United States.
Speaking ahead of the summit, President Boakai expressed optimism about the discussions, noting Liberia’s continued commitment to democratic values, regional peace, and inclusive economic growth.
The summit, convening this morning at the White House, marks a significant step in redefining U.S.-Africa relations amid growing global interest in the continent’s strategic potential.
