President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has dismissed Mr. Nesco Aleo Wolo as Assistant Director for Operations at the National Security Agency (NSA). The decision, announced in a press release issued on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Madam Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, is described as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of Liberia’s national security institutions.
The President’s action follows concerns raised by the NSA regarding Wolo’s participation in the January 18 funeral service for the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, during which he represented the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR). In a letter dated January 20, 2025, Deputy Director for Administration Patrick P. Doe instructed Wolo to return all government-issued items, including a vehicle, official identification card, communication device, badge, and firearm, and to provide a written explanation for his actions. The agency emphasized that Wolo’s attendance at the funeral in a political capacity violated NSA regulations, which prohibit personnel from engaging in activities that may conflict with the agency’s mission or appear politically motivated.
While thanking Wolo for his service, President Boakai reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding professionalism and accountability across all government sectors, particularly in security institutions. The President emphasized that his decision to relieve Wolo of his duties was made for administrative reasons, aligning with the government’s broader efforts to maintain the integrity of national security operations.
The President extended his best wishes to Wolo in his future endeavors, reaffirming his resolve to ensure that all government officials adhere to strict standards of conduct in their respective roles.
