President Boakai Signs FY 2025 National Budget into Law

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially signed the Fiscal Year 2025 National Budget into law, solidifying the financial framework for the country’s operations in the year ahead. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the President’s office in Paynesville City.

The budget, amounting to $880.66 million, represents a critical step in Liberia’s governance and economic planning. This statutory instrument, passed by the Legislature in December 2024, gained legal effect with President Boakai’s approval, marking the culmination of weeks of legislative deliberations.

In his address during the ceremony, President Boakai highlighted the significance of the budget’s timely passage and implementation. “This budget is more than a financial document; it is a reflection of our commitment to addressing the pressing needs of our citizens and driving national development,” he said.

The President acknowledged the efforts of the Legislature in concluding deliberations before the holiday season, which allowed for swift executive action. The National Legislature had finalized the budget on December 20, 2024, following the Senate’s concurrence with the House of Representatives’ version.

Key government officials, including Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Bill McGill Jones, were present at the ceremony, emphasizing the administration’s unified approach to fiscal governance.

The FY 2025 National Budget prioritizes economic growth, enhanced service delivery, improved social infrastructure, and the creation of opportunities for all Liberians. As the government transitions to the implementation phase, President Boakai urged all stakeholders to ensure that allocated resources are utilized effectively to produce tangible benefits for the Liberian people.

“This is the time to act. The challenges before us are many, but so are the opportunities. It is our collective responsibility to ensure this budget translates into measurable improvements in the lives of our citizens,” President Boakai stated.
