Congo Town, Monrovia – September 2, 2025 | President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected this morning to break ground for the construction of two overpasses along Tubman Boulevard in Congo Town, in what is being described as a historic milestone in Liberia’s infrastructure development.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex and marks a significant step in efforts to ease the growing traffic congestion and improve urban mobility in Monrovia.
The project is fully sponsored by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, continuing its long-standing partnership with Liberia in road and public infrastructure development.
Once completed, the overpasses are expected to drastically reduce travel delays along Tubman Boulevard, one of the busiest routes connecting central Monrovia to Paynesville and other parts of Montserrado County.
Government officials, representatives of the Chinese Embassy, and members of the public are expected to grace today’s ceremony.
