Pro Tempore Karnga Lawrence Clarifies Absence from Flag Day Event

The Office of the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, has clarified that her absence from the recent Flag Day event was not a boycott, as reported by some media outlets.

A statement issued by her office described such reports as inaccurate and misleading. It emphasized that Pro Tempore Karnga Lawrence is currently out of the country on official engagements.

Senator Karnga Lawrence is in the United States to serve as keynote speaker at the United Bassa Organization in the Americas (UNIBOA) 34th Convention. The event is being held from August 31 to September 1, 2025.

The Grand Bassa County Senator is participating in the event as part of her legislative break, which is granted by law to members of the Legislature.

UNIBOA is a prominent diaspora organization representing citizens of Bassa origin. Senator Lawrence, as a sitting Bassa lawmaker, is fulfilling her duty to engage with Liberians abroad.

According to the statement, while absent physically, the Senator expressed her patriotism in a Facebook post, stating that “honoring the flag is a commitment to patriotism always.”

The Office of the Pro Tempore reaffirmed that Senator Lawrence remains a dedicated public servant with a long-standing record of national service.

During her legislative recess, Senator Lawrence has also been engaging citizens in rural Bassa and the diaspora, as part of efforts to maintain strong constituent relations.

Her office noted that these interactions will be reviewed upon the Senate’s return to session to help inform future legislative decisions.

The clarification seeks to set the record straight and address what her office described as “misleading” media coverage.

The statement also called on the Liberian media to maintain professionalism and ensure that reports to the public are accurate, balanced, and credible.

Integrity in information dissemination matters,” the statement concluded.
