Prophet Key Jailing Condemned

Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie has strongly condemned the arrest and imprisonment of political commentator Prophet Key, accusing the National Elections Commission (NEC) and the government of violating his right to due process. Writing from exile, Kollie expressed outrage that someone who fought to bring the current administration to power has been jailed on a mere accusation of falsifying a voter’s ID card.

According to Kollie, the NEC disqualified Prophet Key from participating in the recent election over the alleged falsification but went a step further to have him imprisoned, despite failing to prove the allegation in court. “NEC’s claim is still an accusation. PK has not been officially heard to either establish his innocence or guilt,” Kollie stated, questioning the legitimacy of the process.

He further criticized what he sees as selective justice in Liberia. “People looted and are looting that country right under your eyes, but you don’t put them in jail,” Kollie wrote. He cited figures accused of large-scale corruption, including those who allegedly sold Liberian passports to transnational criminals, questioning why such individuals are not facing legal consequences while Prophet Key is jailed. While clarifying that he does not support Prophet Key’s often controversial rhetoric, Kollie insisted that justice must be served with fairness. “I am TOTALLY against the imprisonment of Prophet Key and call for his immediate release,” he declared, calling the move an act of humiliation against a man who, according to him, significantly contributed to the rise of the current government.

Kollie reminded the public of Prophet Key’s efforts during the campaign period, noting that he raised thousands of dollars to support poll watchers and was even deported from Morocco due to his political activism. “This is NOT how you pay him. POWER makes people drunk. This is what led to Weah’s downfall. THINK, and RETHINK,” he warned.Kollie emphasized that while the law should take its course, it must do so with fairness and transparency. “Accord Prophet Key due process. This is a principle of justice,” he concluded.
