Montserrado County District #16 Representative, Dixon W. Seboe, has issued a strong warning to colleagues at the 55th House of Representatives of Liberia, urging an immediate delay of the Legislature’s planned recess amid escalating tensions along the Liberia–Guinea border.
Speaking during Tuesday’s plenary, the opposition lawmaker called for a one-week extension of the first-quarter adjournment, cautioning that the country faces what he described as a “serious national security threat.”
Rep. Seboe’s concern follows reports of alleged incursions by Guinean soldiers into Liberian territory, particularly in parts of Lofa County, where residents are said to be mobilizing in response to the situation.
“This is not the time for recess. This is the time for action,” Seboe declared, stressing that lawmakers must prioritize national interest over routine legislative breaks. He warned that the situation transcends a typical border dispute and poses a direct threat to Liberia’s sovereignty, peace, and stability.
The reported developments have heightened anxiety among citizens in border communities and placed increased pressure on national authorities to respond decisively to protect territorial integrity.
Amid the growing concerns, the 55th House of Representatives has announced that a high-level delegation of lawmakers will travel to the Liberia–Guinea border on Friday to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the situation.
According to House leadership, the visit is intended to gather first-hand information, engage local authorities and residents, and evaluate measures needed to de-escalate tensions and ensure stability in affected communities.
Lawmakers say the move underscores the Legislature’s commitment to safeguarding national peace and protecting the lives and property of citizens, especially those in vulnerable border regions.
